Jacintha Saldanha’s death: 2Day FM DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian resign

Sydney: Australian DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian, who are behind the prank call to King Edward VII’s Hospital, have resigned from their posts at 2Day FM as they are “deeply shocked” over the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha.
Station owner company, Southern Cross Austereo, said in a statement: “SCA and 2Day FM are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha from King Edward VII’s Hospital.
“SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy.”
Radio presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian apologised earlier this week for the call.
“We were very surprised that our call was put through. We thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents,” they said in a statement.
“We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well.”
Earlier this week, the DJs phoned the hospital in London pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles. The nurse took them as original and updated them about the condition of Kate, who was admitted to hospital on Monday with acute morning sickness and left on Thursday, saying she was feeling much better.
